2024 Geneva Motor Show Preview

The Geneva Motor Show, back after a hiatus, promises a car nerd’s delight, albeit in a more compact package than in days of yore.

Forget the extravagant spectacles of yesteryears; this time, it's quality over quantity with just four major players gracing the stage. Brace yourselves for Dacia, Renault, MG, and the Chinese juggernaut, BYD, to steal the spotlight. That means the Geneva show will be without the likes of Audi, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Porsche, JLR, Stellantis and more. Even soem of the smaller firms like Subaru, Suzuki and Honda all used to have huge presence at Geneva, but again have all decided to miss this year’s event.

The BYD Seal-U is espected to be one of the stars of the show

BYD, like a bull in a china shop, is here to make a statement. Having outsold even the mighty Volkswagen in its homeland, it's now eyeing European domination. The BYD Seal U, their first foray into the non-EV realm, is primed to shake up the hybrid SUV scene, taking on the Skoda Kodiaq with swagger.

But wait, there's more – introducing the Yangwang U8, a beast of an SUV with a trick up its sleeve: a tank turn function. It's like something out of a James Bond film, only it's real.

Then we have Dacia, the champion of budget brilliance. Their Spring EV, long the European darling, finally graces UK shores, promising affordable electric motoring for the masses. With a revamped design and upgraded tech, it's the electric revolution we've been waiting for.

Lucid, the American upstart, is also making waves. While their cars are yet to hit UK roads, the Gravity SUV, with its monstrous battery range, is a tantalizing glimpse into the future of electric luxury.

And let's not forget MG, the plucky underdog. While they've been busy challenging the status quo with their electric lineup, they're not content to rest on their laurels. The MG3, a pint-sized powerhouse, is set to make waves in the supermini segment with its sleek design and tech-laden interior.

The Geneva Motor Show may be smaller this year, but the excitement? That's bigger than ever.

Stay tuned to DeifnitelyNotAGuru next week as Jim will be filming a guerilla-style report from the event!
