Toyota launches new C-HR hybrids
This week, Toyota has unveiled the latest generation of CH-R hybrids with three different hybrid models, as well as a plug-in-hybrid for the first time. The new car will use the company’s new fifth generation hybrid system which offers more power as well as reducing its size and weight. This new system made its debut with the newest generation of the Prius, a car which wont be coming to the UK.
The new PHEV system can be seen in the latest Prius which was launched back in November 2022. This uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine with a 160bhp electric motor driving the front wheels. Everything is housed in the front of the car, the electric motor, differential and planetary gearbox.
Toyota has said that the new CH-R will have a one pedal driving experience, with multiple levels of regenerative braking. Toyota has also said that the regenerative system can learn what mode is going to be best for energy consumption based on the route plumbed in to the satnav at that given time.
As well as the impressive PHEV model, Toyota also has some full hybrids, with either a 1.8-litre or 2.0-litre engine. There is also a a four wheel drive model, only available as a 2.0-lire which places a second electric motor on the rear axle.
The new CH-R will go on sale soon, but the company hasn’t said anything about when it will do so or at what price.
