Renault Zoe discontinued after 11 years

Launched in 2012, the Renault Zoe has been removed from sale in the UK after 11 years on sale. Production will end for good in March 2024 but the company has decided to remove the car from the UK market a few months early.

The first Zoe was the best-selling electric car in France, with 100,000 units registered from 2013 to June 2020. To this day, many good deals can be had for used market for the first generation with prices starting at (PRICE). The first generation had a 22kWh battery pack and offered a range between 130 and 150 miles, based on the now defunct NEDC testing cycle. In 2016, Renault launched a longer-range model with a 41kWh pack, increasing the potential range to 250 miles.

Then, in 2019 the current Zoe was launched and had a much larger pack, at 52kWh. This had a potential range of 239 miles, based the more strict and realistic WLTP testing cycle. It also supports 50kW DC fast charging, although this was an optional extra.

Over 30,000 Zoes were sold in the UK and 380,000 in Europe in total.

What comes next?

For the time being, while the Zoe is not on sale there won’t be anything available in the same size category. Renault does have the Mégane E-Tech but until the new Renault 5 is launched, that’ll be the only EV on sale from the company.

The Renault 5 will be launched officially in February at the Geneva Motor Show, which will give us the first glimpse at what the final version will look like. It’ll also have a 52kWh battery pack with 248 miles of range. The 5 was shown off in 2021 as a concept car and it is understood that the production version will look very similar.
