Fiat 600 hybrid launched for under £24k
Fiat has today announced a new petrol hybrid version of the 600 crossover, after launching the full electric version in July last year. The new variant comes in at £23,965 and will go on sale later this week. When the 600e was originally debuted, Fiat revealed that other markets would get a petrol version, but the UK would only have the 600e. However with today’s announcement it seems Fiat has backtracked on that original decision.
Fiat is a part of the larger Stellantis group and its stablemate Jeep did the exact same thing with the Avenger. Previously, that was supposed to be EV only in the UK, but in November 2023 the company revealed a much cheaper petrol version.
Orders will start this week and the 600 will use the same engine seen in the aforementioned Jeep Avenger and also the Peugeot 3008. It uses a 1.2-litre three cylinder turbo unit, with a six speed automatic gearbox, with no manual option available. It has 48V mild-hybrid tech with a 1kWh battery and 29bhp electric motor. In total, it has 134bhp and we can expect around 55mpg.
When compared to the 600e, the petrol variant is substantially cheaper, £9205 less in fact. Every model that Stellantis offers in this class are now available in either hybrid or full EV. This includes the Jeep Avenger, Vauxhall Corsa, Vauxhall Mokka, Peugeot 208, Peugeot 2007, Citroen C4 and the DS 3.
